Q. Are organics environmentally friendly as claims suggest?
A. Nutrient levels and impurities found in many of the organics tested can be considered an environmental concern.  Organic deicers and inhibitors can lead to oxygen demand and toxicity concerns in aquatic systems.  The reduction of sodium chloride is key to minimizing environmental impacts.  Reduce your salt usage 30% by pre-wetting with LIQUIDOW ™calcium chloride.

Q. How do organics melt snow and ice?
A. They don't.  Do not confuse freeze point with melting properties.  There is no data to convince of any ice melting capabilities.

Q. What about corrosion?
A. The adhesion properties of organic snow and ice control materials, in some instances, accelerate corrosion by trapping moisture.  Specifically at any points of defect.

Anti-Icing
Is the application of LIQUIDOW ™ or materials treated with LIQUIDOW ™ prior to an event.  Designed to prevent the bond of snowpack and ice to the pavement.

Pre-Wetting
The process of applying LIQUIDOW ™ to your salt or sand/abrasives prior to applying it on the pavement.  When rock salt is prewetted with LIQUIDOW ™Calcium Chloride, it provides:

Q. What are the application rates?
A. LIQUIDOW ™ calcium chloride should be applied at a rate of 8-10 gallons per ton of salt or 10-15 gallons per ton of abrasives. LIQUIDOW ™ reduces bounce and scatter and saves money by keeping your materials on the roadways working at the lowest temperatures.

Q. Are all chlorides equal?
A. No. Sodium chloride is not calcium chloride.

Q. What about salt brine?
A. Salt brine is only effective in melting snow and ice down to +20°f. In order to be effective at lower temperatures it must be mixed with calcium chloride at a rate of 2% by weight or 6% by volume. Calcium chloride is effective down to -25°f.

Q. What about corrosion?
A. Add triethalnolamine as a corrosion inhibitor. It is used by SCDOT an TNDOT at a rate of 20 ounces per 400 gallons of 32% LIQUIDOW ™ calcium chloride The addition of triethanolamine has met the latest ASTMD 98 version. No need for any additional dedicated storage.
